Obituary

Age 78, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and podiatrist, passed away on April 5, 2026.

Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Bob carried with him the spirit and character of his roots throughout his entire life.

Bob attended Pace College in New York, where he not only earned his undergraduate degree but also met the love of his life, Sena. He went on to earn his Podiatric Medicine degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, embarking on a career defined by quiet dedication and genuine care for others. He served as a podiatrist for approximately 2.5 years at the New Orleans VA Hospital before beginning a remarkable 30-year tenure at the VA Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware — a career built on serving those who had served their country.

Before his medical career, Bob himself answered the call of service, proudly serving in the United States Air Force, with postings in Denver, Colorado, and Dover, Delaware.

Outside of his profession, Bob had a love of history, a passion for trivia, and a fondness for the music of the 1930s, '40s, and '50s — the songs and stories of a world that shaped him. Those who knew him would describe him as a quiet man, but purposeful in everything he did. He had a warm sense of humor and genuinely cherished good conversation — in the right doses.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Sena Garber; his son, Ari Garber; his daughter, Deanna Garber; his sister, Leah Garber; his daughter-in-law, Dana Rohrbough; his grandson, Cas Garber, who brought him immeasurable joy; and his faithful feline companion, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Samuel Garber.

Bob Garber lived a life of service — to his country, to his patients, and to his family. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Jewish Community Cemetery, 401 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Blood Cancers United, Faithful

Friends Animal Society, Humane Animal Partners of Delaware.
