In the early morning of September 7, 2026, the planet lost a magnificent spark, Renata Suzanne Brito-Cherrin, at the young age of 37.

Our world got darker, but the stars in the sky gained a new light.  Renata, known to her loved ones as “Tot-Tot” played many roles during her time on this earth and radiated love out to all of those who were fortunate enough to be her friend.  Renata was born in Wilmington, Delaware on June 9, 1989.  She spent most of her childhood living in Eureka, California with her mother, step-father and sisters.  As a child, she was funny, creative, inquisitive and a wonderful actress.  She loved hikes through the redwoods, camping, riding horses and playing extensive imaginary games with her older sister.  She developed a passion for reading, writing and art.  She had a brilliant mind.  She attended Equinox, a small school in the Redwoods where she made life-long friendships.  Her younger sister was born there, and she became a loving protector toward her.  A year later, the whole family moved back to Wilmington, DE.  Her teenage years were spent primarily living in Arden where she would later become a pillar in the community.  She also spent time living in Cuernavaca, Morelos with her father and family in Mexico where she loved to cook with her Tias, listen to Selena, eat Tacos al Pastor and be with her family.

Renata was a true scholar.  In her young adult years, she moved to Amherst, Massachusetts where she received a Bachelor's degree from Hampshire College.  After returning from college, she became passionate about local politics, and served on various committees in the Ardens.  Her talents extended into a wide variety of fields such as teaching, nannying, and community outreach surrounding addiction and homelessness.  Renata always strived to help those around her, which manifested into a Masters Degree in Counseling & Psychology from Goldey Beacom College. She graduated in May 2023 becoming the keynote speaker at her graduation.  She was in her fourth year of the PsyD program at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) where she mentored students, helped patients, classmates and collaborated with faculty.  She was also the coordinator of the Inclusivity in Practice Research Program.  She was a published author and recently completed a publication on bias in healthcare.  In addition to all her academic accomplishments, she took the most pride in her family.

In April, 2025, she married the love of her life, Ed Sadler.  They created a home together with their beloved dog Tenoch “Tenny.”  The three of them became locally renowned in Delaware Online for Tenny’s long tongue and their creative Mario and Luigi costumes.  They shared a love for cooking, watching Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons.  They spoiled their dog with homemade meals and gifts.

Renata was a loving sister, wife, daughter, granddaughter, aunt and friend.  She loved family dinners, creating trivia games, making extravagant snacks and cards, telling ghost stories,and engaging in the occasional gossip.  She was truly magnetic, and brought all who knew her together.  She had a strong passion for music and art, creating goofy doodles, large paintings and themed playlists.

She is survived by her husband, Edward Sadler; mother, Michelle Lauer; father, Armando Brito; step-father, Scott Kushner; sisters Camille Vernon (Sean) and Toby Lauer (Kyle); grandmother, Sue Cherrin; aunt Valerie Cherrin, and her beloved nephews Jackson, Alex, Kam and nieces Mabel, and Savannah.  She is predeceased by her Poppop, Richard Cherrin; her step-father, Chris Lauer; her grandmother Beatriz Salgado; and her great-grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” Benson. She will be deeply missed by all.
