Leonard "Len"
Markovitz
Dec 1, 1929 — Sep 1, 2026
Age 96, passed away peacefully September 1, 2026 surrounded by his family.
Len was a man of exceptional character and sense of humor. Known by many as "The Mayor," he had a remarkable ability to connect with people and made lasting friendships wherever he went. Len lived life to the fullest and remained active throughout his years. A proud United States Air Force Veteran, he served for many years as Commander of the Delaware Chapter of the Jewish War Veterans. During the winter months at his home in Delray Beach, FL, he volunteered with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office. Never one to sit still, Len could often be found at the gym.
Len was the beloved husband of Renee who preceded him in death. He will be dearly missed by his children, Andrew (Peg) and Terri (Neal) Pheiffer; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and the many family members and friends whose lives he touched.
A graveside service will be 11:30 am, Friday September 4,2026 at the Jewish Community Cemetery, 401 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. Shiva will be observed at Terri's home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jewish War Veterans (www.jwv.org).
