IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Mavis
Brandt
October 29, 1932 – February 11, 2026
Our beloved mother, Joan Mavis Brandt, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, February 11, 2026, at the age of 93.
Joan was born and raised in Woodbridge, New Jersey, the daughter of the late Helen and Morris Klein. She was a proud graduate of Syracuse University. An English teacher by profession, she stepped away from full-time teaching to raise her family but later returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher, continuing to teach well into her eighties. Joan was deeply involved in her community, serving as President of her Sisterhood and appearing in local theater productions. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Joan married the love of her life, Sanford Brandt, and together they shared nearly 66 wonderful years of marriage. They built their life in Woodbridge where they raised their three daughters and created a home filled with love, laughter, and enduring traditions. They later moved to Newark, Delaware, and their family grew to include eight cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joan was a longtime member of Temple Beth El in Newark, Delaware and Hadassah. She was an avid Mah Jongg player, a gifted cook known for her memorable holiday meals, and happiest when surrounded by those she loved, especially spending time with family at the beach.
In her later years, Joan resided at Brandywine Haverford Estates in Haverford, Pennsylvania.
Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Sanford Brandt, and her sister, Dorothy Slotkin. She is survived by her loving daughters, Mindy Brandt (Allan Weiner), Bari Brandt (Mitchell Stein), and Jennifer Brandt (Glen Hassett); her eight grandchildren, Adam (Julie) Weiner, Aaron (Alison) Weiner, Alex Weiner, Evan Gonshor, Daniel Stein, Nathan Stein, Zachary Hassett, and Zoe Hassett; her two great-grandchildren, Olivia Weiner and Mateo Weiner; and her brother, Kenneth Klein (Karen).
Funeral services will be 12:00 pm, Friday, February 13, 2026 at the Jewish Community Cemetery, 401 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Temple Beth El, Humane Animal Partners of Delaware, or Hadassah.
