Harry Steven
Cohen
March 13, 1960 – April 19, 2026
Harry Cohen, age 66, passed away April 19, 2026. He dedicated his life to his communities and his passions.
Harry joined the fire department at age 16 and served as a paramedic and volunteer firefighter across both Baltimore City and Baltimore County, many of those years with the Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company. He owned the Firehouse Tavern for 31 years, creating a gathering space for first responders and the broader community alike.
Harry advocated for small business owners through his involvement and leadership on various boards and associations. He served five years as President of the Baltimore County Licensed Beverage Association.
Harry was a proud member of the Jewish community and raised in the Har Sinai Congregation family in Baltimore.
As a health care advocate, he mentored new amputees, helping them navigate the challenges through experience, humor, and loving support. Harry was also an addiction sponsor, guiding those through his own lived experiences.
A man of many hobbies, he loved big game fishing, travel, woodworking, and most dear to his heart, raising and showing dogs, notably Great Danes (and although he would never admit it, he loved his daughter’s ankle biter dogs).
Preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Phyllis Cohen; he is survived by his wife, Cindy (nee Laub); children, Ilana Cohen (Yoryos Ponnighaus) and Shelby Rosenberg (Trevor); sibling, Fran Stuart; and grandchildren, Owen Robert Rosenberg, Ruadh Cohen Ponnighaus, and Finnian Cohen Ponnighaus.
Harry's final mitzvah was to donate his organs, allowing others to continue to experience their beautiful lives.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 am, Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Seaside Jewish Community, 18970 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Harry's memory to Amputee Coalition (www.amputee-coalition.org) or Gift of Life - Howie's House, Philadelphia (www.giftoflifehowiehouse.org/bridge-about-us/).
