Florence G.
Budovitch
Jan 29, 1926 — Jul 13, 2026
Age 100, she was born January 29, 1926 in New York, NY and passed away July 13, 2026 in Wilmington, DE.
Florence was born in New York to Samuel and Isabelle Greengold. A graduate of Cooper Union, she majored in graphic design and went on to design children’s clothing for Kate Greenaway Dresses in New York. In 1951, she married her husband, Isaac, to whom she was introduced through family friends and joined him in Wilmington, Delaware where he was establishing a scrap metal business and she established herself as a proud Wilmingtonian – raising her family, making life-long friendships, and engaging in the community.
An enthusiastic homemaker and adventuresome cook, Florence took great pride in creating a beautiful home for her husband and children. She loved entertaining and preparing ethnic dishes from which she learned about other cultures and cuisines, enthusiastically sharing the food and what she learned in preparing it with those around the table. Florence had a great eye for color and design and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved classical music and jazz and studied piano as both a child and an adult. A lifelong learner, Florence was driven by an unapologetic and joyous sense of curiosity. She took courses at the University of Delaware, studied painting with Edward Loper, Sr., served on the board of the JCC and participated actively in Congregation Beth Shalom. In her later years, she took painting and creative writing courses at Osher and enjoyed socializing with neighbors at Park Plaza.
She was a devoted grandmother, a beloved “double bubbe” to her great grandchildren and a loving sibling to her older sister, Doris, who preceded her in death at the age of 102.
An adored wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Rona; son, Alan (Susan); grandchildren, Elana (Amber) and Max (Isbah); and great-grandchildren, Marlo and Ruby. She is predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Isaac, her sister, Doris; and her son-in-law, Mark.
Funeral services will be 12:00 pm, Thursday, July 16 2026 at the Jewish Community Cemetery, 401 Foulk Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. Shiva will be observed 7:30 pm Thursday evening at the late residence.
