IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Faith
Brown
November 11, 1929 – January 11, 2026
Faith Brown, beloved wife of the late Louis Brown, passed away on Sunday, January 11, at the age of ninety-six.
Faith, along with her husband Lou, was an active member of Adas Kodesh Shel Emeth Congregation and took on many leadership roles in Wilmington’s Jewish community, ranging from Hadassah President to founder and decades-long participant in the yearly musical celebration, Café Tamar.
For decades, Faith was also a dedicated and popular Hebrew schoolteacher, who continued to teach, instruct, and convey the breadth of her Jewish knowledge and love of literature and poetry to both adults and children whether through speaking or writing. In the last decade of her life, she became a prolific writer whose poems and essays appeared regularly in the Jewish Living Delaware magazine, and which earned her a fan base in the community.
Both Faith and Lou loved to travel; and together, they visited many states in the U.S., became Elder Hostel participants, and took trips to a number of countries in Europe and Asia. They were proud of having visited Israel ten times, and serving as volunteers for a variety of programs.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Faith was a great fan of her city and home state, and valedictorian of her Wilmington High School class. She married Lou after he returned from his WWII service and together, they forged a loving partnership and richly rewarding married life.
A strong and proud Jew, Faith leaves an important legacy of community service, love of music, and lifelong learning.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends and by her three children, Marla (Charles), David (Riva), and Beth (Diego); six grandchildren, Jeremy, Devorah (Daniel), Benjamin, Emma, Robert, and Tess; and four great-grandchildren, Allie, Kayla, Mia, and Alex.
